If I asked you to say the first sport that comes to mind when you think of Canada, odds are you’d reply without hesitation hockey. However, the emergence of a bright young talent by the name of Alphonso Davies is doing his best to change that narrative.

We first became acquainted with Davies when he burst onto the scene in spectacular fashion with the Vancouver Whitecaps, of the MLS, at the age of 16. Immediately showing the world his world class pace alongside with an IQ far beyond his years, it was only a matter of time before the biggest clubs in Europe began courting his services.

In 2018 The Whitecaps announced that Davies would be joining the soccer powerhouse Bayern Munich on a 22 million dollar transfer fee. Since joining the German side, Davies has proven to be worth every penny shelled out for his talent. Helping Munich to it’s 6th UEFA Champions League Trophy in a 1-0 victory against French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain, led by two of soccer’s most renowned names in Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe.

As World Cup Qualifications are well underway the question remains, can Davies take the Canadian National Team to its second ever World Cup Tournament? Coming off their latest match against the Cayman Islands where The Canucks secured an 11-0 victory (The biggest win in Men’s Canadian National Team history), Davies and company seem to be on a warpath to show the world there’s 3 national teams in North America threatening for a spot in the World Cup, as a oppose to the usual two in the United States and Mexico. Outside of Davies the National side has a variety of talents to aid in the overall success of the squad. One undoubtedly worth mentioning is Lille OSC forward Jonathan David. Although he wasn’t in the squad over the last international Break due to an ankle injury, the 20 year-old forward and Davies have potential to become a feared one-two punch on the pitch.
